Come relax with us on the “Quietside” of Mt. Desert Island.

Acadia National Park keeps setting records for visitation.  This means that the Bar Harbor side of the Island gets very busy.  In addition,  there is major road construction going into Bar Harbor, with lots of traffic delays.  Fortunately, we can help you get away from all that; Southwest Harbor is on the "Quietside" of the island, away from the congestion and commercialism of Bar Harbor, but still within minutes of all that Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park offer you. And there is just about as much of the park on our side of the island as there is on the other side, but less crowded and more peaceful. We're the Lodges - Marge and Don, your hosts at "The Lodge-ings" of Southwest Harbor.

We only have three rooms, and one of the great things about being small is that we can spend time with our guests – looking at maps, suggesting trails or bike routes, helping you tailor your day to the things you want to do, or the amount of effort you want to expend. That kind of attention to you is not always possible in larger B&B's or inns. We can also recommend other activities, such as sailing, nature cruises, carriage rides, museums, etc.  And there's our great breakfast menu.

And if the Maine weather should be uncooperative for a day, grab a book from our approximately 1400 volumes of fiction, nonfiction, history, biography, and miscellaneous literature, and sit on our large porch and relax. Or take one of our books and sit with it in the sun on the ledges of Otter Cliffs, or watching the surf come in at Sand Beach, or enjoy it during your lunch break as you look out over Somes Sound from the top of Mt. Nurembega.

And the fun isn't confined to summer.  With snow on the ground, Acadia's trails become great for snowshoeing, and an extensive portion of the carriage roads is groomed for cross-country skiing.  And we're ready to accomodate you.

In any case, whether you're here to hike, to bike, to sail, or just to relax and unwind, we will be happy to welcome you as part of our extended family.
